Catherine Middleton arrives to attend the Royal Wedding of Prince William to Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011 in London, England. The marriage of the second in line to the British throne is to be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and will be attended by 1900 guests, including foreign Royal family members and heads of state. Thousands of well-wishers from around the world have also flocked to London to witness the spectacle and pageantry of the Royal Wedding.

Kate Middleton paid a poignant tribute to tragic fashion designer Alexander Mcqueen at her wedding to Prince William by walking down the aisle wearing a dress created by his successor.

Speculation about who would be designing Middleton’s wedding dress has been rife every since the royal couple announced their engagement last year (10).

Middleton put the rumours to rest on Friday (29Apr11) by appearing in a stunning white gown designed by Sarah Burton, who took over as creative director of the Alexander MCQueen label after the famed couturier’s suicide last February (10).

The choice came as a surprise because a representative for the design house previously denied any involvement in Britain’s royal wedding.

The brunette beauty’s gown featured long, lace sleeves and a bodice, with a full skirt of white satin and an extensive train. Aside from the French Chantilly lace, all of the fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from Britain.

Middleton wore a full veil, made of ivory silk tulle, held in place by the ‘halo’ tiara, which was made by famed jewellers Cartier in 1936. The glittering diamond piece was purchased by King George VI three weeks before he succeeded his brother Edward Viii.

The king bought the tiara for his wife Queen Elizabeth, the late The Queen Mother, who passed it on to her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II on her 18th birthday.

Middleton also wore diamond earrings in the shape of oak leaves, inspired by the Middleton family’s new coat of arms – a wedding gift from her parents. She carried a bouquet of myrtle, lily-of-the-valley, sweet William and hyacinth, with the flowers symbolising the return of happiness, gallantry and constancy of love.
