Application Tips

I LOVE SMOKEY EYES! Sexy, mysterious, alluring, chic, cool! It seems really complicated, right? Not with my smokey eye kit! It absolutely takes all the guesswork out of it. Just smooth on my cream to powder base, this will keep your smokey eyes smoldering all day. Then, take the lightest shadow and lightly dust it all over the lid all the way to the browbone. Next, take the medium tone and lay it from the lashline to just past the crease of your eye. If you have a flatter shaped eye, like me, just go up right past where you can fell your eyeball sit in your socket, then blend up. Take the darkest tone and run that all over the lashline, top and bottom. Finally, finish off with the pencil liner on top.

The shades in all kits (Brownstone, Skyscraper, and Central Park, get it? CITY chick?) are softer than harsh blacks, so you can have smokin’ eyes anytime.

Beauty Tips: How To Pick Eyeshadows For Green Eyes

Green eyes are really fun to work with. They have such a wide color range from turqouise to chartreuse to forest green to bright light green and on and on.

These tips are designed for the magority of green eyes, but of course there are exceptions to every rule. My best advice is to try every color that you’re interested in. You’ll be surprised what looks good.

Choosing An Eyeshadow

These colors are some of the most popular for green eyes.

Try different browns, especially chocolate tones. Browns and dark greens with copper or gold highlights are also a great choice.

Apricots and taupes are good choices for highlighters.

Dark purples, plums and metallics work too. Coppers and golds will make a really glamorous evening look for makeup tips for green eyes. I personally really like the way deep purples look with dark green eyes.

Colors To Avoid

When you’re learning makeup tips for green eyes, it also helps to know what colors you might want to avoid.

First up, blues. Any color of blue doesn’t do green eyes justice. I would recommend avoiding light blues, dark blues and even some colors (purples or pinks) with blue undertones.

Pinks are also a hard color to judge. Some can look really, really good and others can look really, really bad. This is usually a matter of trial and error.

Silvers are not a good choice either. Leave them for the blue eyes.

Eyeliner Colors

Unless you really like black eyeliner, it’s usually a color to avoid. Try steely grays or chocolate browns. Use gold or white to open up the eye if your eyes are small.

The Rule Of Thumb

A good rule of thumb when choosing a color for makeup tips for green eyes is to focus on warm colors and avoid cool colors.

Like I said, there are exceptions to every rule, but this should provide a nearly fail-safe method for choosing eyeshadow colors to bring out the beauty of your green eyes.

The Application

How you apply your eyeshadow depends how many colors you’re wearing and what the occasion is.

For basic every day wear, here’s what you do.

1. Apply a highlighter like crystalline to the entire eye from the bottom of the crease to the eyebrow.

2. Use a taupe or apricot next and apply it to the whole eyelid and blend it just above the crease with the crystalline.

3. Then use your third color (chocolate brown, dark green, copper, etc.) and apply it one of two ways:

a. Apply it from the middle of your eyelid from the eyelash to just above the crease. Blend it well. You can even blend it under the lower lashes for a more dramatic look.

b. Apply it from the inner corner of your eyelid and sweep it out to the outer corner of your eye. It will get thicker the further out you go. Blend well.

4. Apply eyeliner and mascara as you normally would.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a visual learner. When it comes to makeup tutorials (find a bunch here), I find I learn best when I can see step-by-step actions, especially when it involves eye makeup. Therefore I bring you a video tutorial of what I need the most help with — making my beady eyes look big and beautiful. I’ve just mastered this one, hopefully you can too.

Summary: I have really small eyes so I’ve found a way to make them appear bigger.  Take a white eyeliner and apply that on your waterline instead of black eyeliner.  The white eyeliner pulls the white part of your eye down making them look bigger while the black eyeliner pulls you lash line up making your eyes appear smaller.

Getting your best summertime glow year round doesn’t have to mean spending hours in the tanning booth or lying on a tropical beach. Bronzers are the newest trend to get sun-kissed skin without the risk of cancer; this highly-coveted beauty item is even available for any skin color.

The Different Types of Bronzers

Most bronzers come in a compact or powder form, but other versions are also becoming popular, including sprays, gels or lotions. Moisturizers now have tints and bronzers in them to give you a more natural bronze color, and you can even try bronzers that last longer than a single application. These self-tanners typically fade within five days or less, but can look very natural and are easy to apply.

Don’t know which kind is right for you? You can go to a beauty specialty store and ask an expert there who can assess your skin type and go from there. Or try them all – you’ll never know what your preferences are if you don’t know all your options.

The Different Colors of Bronze

Bronzers are more than just a fake tan. Many use the natural tones in your skin to help you look your best. Look for bronzers that have different undertones – such as pink versus yellow – and match to your skin’s natural coloring. Don’t ever go much darker than your natural skin color, however, as you will risk looking like an Oompa Loompa. If you have fair skin, you can get lighter bronzers; or you can buy true bronzers to touch up already tanned skin.

Applying Bronzer

Gel, spray or lotion bronzers look best when applied all over. Apply to your neck, chest and face to make sure that the bronze looks natural. Do not spot-apply gel or lotion bronzers, or you could look blotchy and uneven, even if you have great skin.

Powder bronzers work well when placed in strategic areas on your face. Think of the places that tan the most when you are out in the sun. Typically it is the top of your forehead, your nose, high on your cheeks and your chin that gets the best rosy glow, so mimic this look when applying bronzer. Don’t use powder bronzers all over or you could have a result that looks simply like caked-on makeup.

If you try using a self-tanner, follow the directions on the packaging very carefully. Exfoliate your whole face and body before using, and make sure to apply it evenly and rub it in fully. Wash your hands and fingernails thoroughly after application to avoid orange stains that will be a dead giveaway for your fake bronze.

Don’t be afraid to try out different products and methods. You’ll be glad you did when your friends compliment you on your fresh-from-vacation glowing skin.
