Designer Betsey Johnson Spring 2012 Fashion Show Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Betsey Johnson has never been one to follow trends and her spring 2012 collection was no exception. While many designers are leaning towards textured tops and mid-length skirts, Betsey chose sheers and loosely flowing bottoms, which were a pleasant divergence from her typical bubble and tulle skirts.

The sheer was, assumedly, to showcase her newly-blossoming lingerie line, to which she featured in her final walk , having the panty-clad models carrying A and T balloons (which stand for A Tisket, the lingerie line).

Betsey complimented her ultra-feminine style with ultra-high platform stiletto heels (giving a few of the models a run for their money). The collection was filled with Betsey’s go-to patterns like floral, cheetah print, and skulls, printed onto full-length skirts, wide leg pants and harem-style rompers. And, of course, Betsey’s fabulous line was not the sole entertainment of the night. Surprising audience members, Betsey danced down the runway, skipping up and down as the models took their final walk. At the end of the night, Betsey Johnson entertained.

Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen Launch New Range of Luxury Handbags ‘The Row’

30 Jul MaryKate-Ashley-Olsen-handbag-collection-200293

Twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will launch their new range of luxury handbags. They are American movie and television actress.

The new collection of luxury handbags has been launched under their fashion label ‘The Row’. Stated to debut Barney’s departmental store, New York in August, bag consist of nine designs including a day tote, backpack, doctor bag and a shoulder bag made from python and alligator.

The bag collection is an amalgamation of new age style and old world glamour. The bags look very chic and contemporary despite a hint of old world styling. Twin sisters recently also dressed up US First lady Michelle Obama.

While we look forward to every new collection from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s The Row, Fall 2011 promises to be particularly crave-worthy. Once again, the duo has gone above and beyond to track down materials that push the boundary of contemporary luxury: strips of mink are woven into cashmere knits, double-sided fox fur provides unprecedented coziness.

Sleek and sophisticated, they blend old-world glamour with contemporary chic—a rare balance that has come to define The Row, season after season.

Below, we listen in as the designers interview one another about inspiration, collaboration, and raiding Picasso‘s wardrobe.

Mary-Kate to Ashley

Mary-Kate Olsen: What is your favorite piece of clothing you’ve designed for The Row?

Ashley Olsen: I would have to say our first t-shirt. We have evolved so much since that first tee, but every collection is based on the same standards—luxurious fabrics, impeccable fit, and the highest level of quality.

“The campaign, which was shot at a historic Aviation center and residence in Malibu, provide an intimate backdrop for the scene and let the viewer escape to a time heralded as the greatest era of cinema.

While Hollywood’s Golden Age gave us the likes of Eva Gardner and Sophia Loren, the GUESS by Marciano spring summer 2011 campaign is re-introducing old Hollywood glamour and style with a modern day twist.”

Shop At Soho Store Of Fashion Designer Diane Von Furstenberg

For East Side babes or downtown girls not willing to trudge to DVF’s Meatpacking flagship, TGIF takes on a new meaning for retail therapists everywhere with today’s opening of Diane von Furstenberg’s Soho store.

The concept, conceived with new-ish creative director Yvan Mispelaere, will be a model for new DVF locations, to better reflect what Diane calls the new era. Throwing off the mantle of “Comeback Kid,” Von Fusternberg tells WWD “We mean business” (we wish we could have heard that delivery).

The aesthetic is all brick walls and barn wood floors, which compliments the “Journey of a Dress” exhibition she held at the Pace Gallery in Beijing, along with empowering sayings like “Love is Life,” “BE the woman you want to be,” and “Glamour Shine Confidence” written in neon graffiti.

Also on tap are a boatload of accessories in their own designated, drool-worthy area, which really makes us want to GSC. Yes, Glamour, Shine, Confidence.

Summary: In 1972, Diane Von Furstenberg first made waves with a simple yet radical directive: “Feel like a woman. Wear a dress.”

Five million wrap dresses later, she graced the November 1976 cover of Newsweek, touted as a new icon of female liberation and the most marketable designer since Coco Chanel.

After a dalliance with her own cosmetics line and a home-furnishings collection, she stepped away from the fashion limelight and moved to Paris, only to reenter in 1992 with Silk Assets, a pioneer in television shopping (its debut collection sold out in less than two hours).

In 1997, Von Furstenberg relaunched her clothing line, and the iconic wrap dress found a warm reception once again. This time, it was the daughters of the first-wave audience who welcomed the wrap into their closets.

Today, the DVF empire includes sportswear, beauty, and fragrance lines, and the flagship store is a cornerstone of the meatpacking district’s fashion quarter, functioning as a boutique, design studio, and pied-à-terre for the CFDA council president.

In addition to the wrap, DVF hallmarks include graphic floral prints, cinch-waist skirt suits, and forties glamour by way of seventies hippie chick.

Tess Giberson Opens Her First Store With Spring Collection 2011

31 May image1

If there’s one thing we’ll never complain about, it’s a chic, new place to shop on Crosby Street. Tess Giberson opens her New York flagship doors today to an airy space decked out in white brick walls and hardwood floors. The store launches with the spring 2011 collection the racks—one that received glowing reviews during NYFW.

Titled Shift, it’s a fresh mix of jersey dresses and tailored separates. “I’m so happy with our first store, because it’s an amazing way to create the right environment to present the collection, and to be able to have my own space to experiment more with special pieces,” the designer said of her new space. We’ll be more than happy to partake in that environment.

Parisian Designer Flore Garcia Bour Designs Dress With Cigarette Butts

Talk about a smokin’ dress!

A Parisian designer is creating a dress made entirely from discarded cigarette butts.

Flore Garcia Bour, a 22-year-old student, is picking up butts by the hundreds from the streets and stitching them into a dress in an effort to make a statement about the amount of litter the tobacco produces.

“I have always been revolted by the number of butts dropped on our streets while it would be simple to change habits and to put them into a rubbish bin,” she told Agence France-Presse.

She also wants to call attention to the fact that the butts take a long time to decompose.

“I hope my dress shocks smokers and plays a role in making them more aware of the damage they do by throwing their butts away that degrade in 18 months at best or 12 years at worst.”

The dress, which she has just recently finished, won’t smell as foul as the cigarette butts from which they’re made. Bour treated them before they were stitched into the dress to ward off the smell.

Sarah Burton Designs Royal Wedding Dress For Kate Middleton

29 Apr Sarah-Burton-Kate-Middletons-Dress-Designer-293828

The woman behind the royal wedding dress that the whole world is talking about has finally been revealed.

Sarah Burton, the creative director for the legendary, recently deceased Alexander McQueen, has the fashion world buzzing with the dazzling, fitted, long-sleeved lace gown she designed for Kate Middleton.

Burton, 36, has an impressive – and diverse – roster of former clients, including Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Bjork.

But before she rose to fame, Burton was born and raised in Manchester with four siblings and attended Manchester Polytechnic, where she earned an art foundation diploma, according to the Telegraph.

She then headed to London, studying print fashion at Central St. Martins – where McQueen went as well. She worked as an intern for McQueen during her third year there and graduated in 1997.

Burton stayed with the company and quickly become McQueen’s protégé, working alongside him until his tragic suicide in 2010. She was appointed creative director shortly after.

In September, she presented her first womenswear collection in Paris, which critics said was not as dramatic as McQueen’s work but still bold enough to make a statement.

Middleton reportedly became aware of the designer years ago when she saw a wedding dress Burton designed for Sara Buys, a fashion journalist who married Tom Parker Bowles, the son of Prince Charles’ wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The British tabloids have been speculating for months that Burton had been chosen to design the dress for the now-Duchess of Cambridge.

Burton quickly dismissed the rumors, telling Vogue UK in March that “I am not doing it.”

But the denial seems to have been part of a detailed strategy to maintain secrecy.

Burton’s latest creation elicited oohs and aahs from wowed fans.

“Oh it’s gorgeous!” exclaimed Yvonne Ryland, of Yorkshire, England, who now lives in Spain. “It is absolutely beautiful. It is so slimming and fits her perfectly. “

Celebrity Mom: Rachel Zoe Tweets Pic of New Baby Boy Skyler

15 Apr Rachel-Zoe-Welcomes-Baby-Boy-293848

Rachel Zoe is bananas for her new baby boy!

The celebrity stylist and husband Rodger Berman have welcomed their first child, a son named Skyler Morrison Berman, in Los Angeles, her rep tells PEOPLE. He weighed in at 6 lbs., 12 oz. and is 20 inches long.

“Mom and Dad ‘LITERALLY’ could not be happier or more in love with their son!” the couple said in a statement.

Zoe, 39, later Tweeted, “Thank you all so much for your love! [Rodger] and I couldn’t be happier with little Skyler Morrison in our arms … he is everything.”

Zoe – whose notorious work ethic is documented on The Rachel Zoe Project – managed to take it easy during her pregnancy, which she recently called a “wonderful, drama-free time.”

While Zoe decided to forego gifts in favor of donations to the charity Baby2Baby at her recent shower, it’s safe to assume her son will be one fashionable baby.
