By far MAC has the biggest shade selection when it comes to bronzing powders, with 4 shades: golden (muted golden tan-beige with shimmer, matte bronze (bare shouldered bronze), refined golden (finely spun golden with soft pearl), and refined deeper bronze (hot bronze with low-shine pearl finish). it also has the best price point which is always a plus in this economy. This bronzer is pretty lightweight and sheer and is great on its own. It’s perfect on the days when you don’t feel like doing the whole foundation routine.

Beauty tips to slim your face

Contouring and highlighting your face can bring out your cheek bones, shorten your nose, slim your face and rid you of a double chin. Here’s how to do it …1.“Think of your face as a canvas,” explains Thomas. Once you’ve applied foundation to even out your complexion you need to shade and highlight areas to create shape. Think of the principles of light and dark — any areas made darker will appear as though they’re receding, and anything made lighter appear as though it’s coming forward.2.“I think the easiest product to use is a bronzing powder without too much shimmer,” explains Thomas. Always start with a little on your brush and build it up gradually.3.Begin by building your cheek bones. To do this, add a little bronzer below your cheek bone, from the hairline to towards the apples of your cheek, in a wedge-like shape. This trick is especially good for women who have very round faces. “[Contouring is] all about reshaping your face and giving it sharper edges — you can never have too-high cheek bones,” says Thomas.4. To make a wide or very round forehead appear narrower, shade just the temples or sides of the forehead, and to slim a wide nose, apply the bronzer down the sides of your nose. Want your nose to appear shorter? Shade the underside of the tip.

5. Disguise a double chin by shading the area under your jaw line. Blending is key in contouring your face — the idea is that you can’t see where the contouring starts and stops.

6. If you don’t have deep-set eyes (ie lids that are still visible when your eyes are open), make them pop by shading along the crease line. Do this either with the bronzer or an eyeshadow that’s a shade darker than the colour you’ll wear.

7. To bring areas of your face forward, thus emphasising them, do the opposite to contouring and use a highlighter (most likely a shimmery powder a bit lighter than your skin colour). The areas you want to do this to are your new-found cheek bones, and the centre of your eyelids. When it comes to your lips, dab a lighter lip shade or illuminating cream just in the middle of them.

Contouring and highlighting your face can take a little practice, but as Thomas says, “Once you start, you’ll want to do it every day.” His tip: try it next time you have a big event coming up and take note of how you look in photos taken on the day. “People in film, TV and pictures can’t live without [this trick].”

NB: You don’t have to use a bronzer and highlighter to do this make-up trick — darker and lighter foundations can be used as well.

Application Tips

I LOVE SMOKEY EYES! Sexy, mysterious, alluring, chic, cool! It seems really complicated, right? Not with my smokey eye kit! It absolutely takes all the guesswork out of it. Just smooth on my cream to powder base, this will keep your smokey eyes smoldering all day. Then, take the lightest shadow and lightly dust it all over the lid all the way to the browbone. Next, take the medium tone and lay it from the lashline to just past the crease of your eye. If you have a flatter shaped eye, like me, just go up right past where you can fell your eyeball sit in your socket, then blend up. Take the darkest tone and run that all over the lashline, top and bottom. Finally, finish off with the pencil liner on top.

The shades in all kits (Brownstone, Skyscraper, and Central Park, get it? CITY chick?) are softer than harsh blacks, so you can have smokin’ eyes anytime.

Beauty Tips: How To Apply Basic Make Up Application

31 May Make-Up-Application-103934

Let’s face it: Some women are not born with the ability to paint their pout perfectly or dust their eyelids with the best colors for their skin tone. For women without the makeup artist gene, you can create a fabulous face that is simple to apply — without creating a beauty disaster. Whether you want to up your batting average with lush lashes or brighten your eyes with a flattering shade of shadow, swipe on your daily dose of self-confidence with professional makeup tips that’ll get you a few steps closer to drop-dead gorgeous.

1.

Prep skin for liquid, cream or powder foundation with a moisturizer made for your skin type. Place a pea-sized portion of moisturizer into your palm. Massage product into your skin using your fingertips.

2.

Apply a dime-sized amount of liquid or cream foundation to your face with a dampened sponge, to get a smooth and dewy finish. Next, swipe on a powder foundation with a large powder brush. Using the same large brush, dust face with a translucent powder to set the liquid or cream foundation. Carefully blend makeup and powder at the jawline and neck with a fluffy, blush brush.

3.

Create a sexy smoky eye,to dress up eyes for evening. Prep eyelids with a dab of concealer, applied with your fingertips, to create a smooth canvas for the shadow. Using an eyeshadow brush, sweep a neutral taupe or beige shadow color across the lid. Add a darker black, gray or navy shadow into the crease to add smoke to the eyes. Line the eyes with black eyeliner. As a final touch; finish with two coats of mascara.

4.

Use a large blush brush to apply a powdery blush color to the center of your cheeks and toward your ears. For light, medium or dark-colored skin, wipe a pink, dusty rose or peach hued blush, to get flushed in a flash. To intensify the color for nighttime, deposit more color on your cheeks with another swipe of the blush along your cheekbones. If you prefer cream formulations over powder, apply and blend cream blush to the apples of cheeks with your fingers.

5.

To create the perfect red lip, line lips with a flesh-colored lip pencil or liner; blend to soften. Layer one coat of a red lip stain on your lips. Celebrity makeup artist Carmindy Bowyer suggests you, “follow with a moisturizing red lipstick. But, avoid red lip-gloss as it gets messy fast.”

6.

Use an eyelash curler to curl lashes and open the eye area. Hold the curler on your lashes for 3 to 5 seconds. To apply mascara like a pro, hold the wand horizontally at the base of your lashes. As you move the wand from the root to the tip, wiggle the wand from side to side. The experts at Covergirl recommend you, “let mascara dry for 10 seconds. Replace the wand at the base of the lashes, and wiggle again as you move up the lashes to thicken.”

Beauty: How To Apply Natural Looking Make Up For Redheads

30 May Make-Up-Red-Heads-192939

Red is such a great hair color. It’s frustrating because no matter how hard they try, it’s the one color that professional colorists can’t get right, so if you are a natural red head, enjoy it. The following are a few makeup tips for red heads; it’s a little more difficult doing makeup when you have red hair, but if it’s done properly, it can be stunning. Always remember, the most important step to beautiful makeup is your skin. Too many people think that makeup starts with foundation but if you want gorgeous makeup, you have to prepare your skin first. Always wash and exfoliate your skin, and in the daytime, apply sunscreen especially important for the fair skin of red heads (even in the winter).

Too many red heads dislike their fair skin or freckles, but we are in a time when this type of skin is revered, so remember that when you are applying your foundation. Your goal, when applying foundation, is to blend your skin tones, not cover freckles. Natural looking makeup is the trend nowadays, and this is especially true for redheads. Only apply enough foundation to blend out red tones or uneven tones in the skin. Make sure to choose a foundation that has a warm tone to it, yellow, gold and peachy undertones are better. Avoid red- or pink-based foundations.

Basic Colors in Redhead Makeup

For the best effect, choose from the brown or green, earthy shades of eye shadows. It will emphasize your eyes and make the red hair look glamorous. Also, a plum, golden and reddish colors will make a hot look for the formal occasions.

The mascara should be brown also, because the black makes the contrast to strong, so that it will make the skin look even more pale. As for the eyeliner, use a brown, gray, or purple eyeliner and avoid black ones. Everything is about having a soft look, without to much contrast that makes the face look overdone. Neutral tones definitely look better on red heads, but that doesn’t mean your eye makeup can’t be dramatic. It’s possible to have gorgeous, smoky eyes for evening, but try deep chestnut brown instead of black or grey. If you want color, try an emerald green or plum instead of blues or purples. Those colors look fantastic on red heads, but will still add the drama you’re looking for.

Lips and Cheeks

For your lips, try the nude look, a tinted lip balm or a lip gloss. Keep it natural, so that you’ll have a fresh look. Having red hair is already a sophisticated part of your look, so don’t try to make it to complex. For a formal occasion you can opt for darker shaded lips, but than leave the eye makeup more simple. It will add drama to the entire makeup.

If you feel like more of a daytime makeup, neutral browns are great, but you can also experiment with gold, peach and soft green. Stick with these colors for blushes and lipsticks as well. If you are going to use a red color on your lips, use a blue or brown base instead of an orange-base red. Don’t forget your eyebrows and lashes, but try brown-black instead of black. It’s not as harsh on fairer complexions. Remember when applying makeup, it’s about enhancing your beauty, not covering up. Red heads are unique and you should embrace that in your makeup.
