The reality TV world is reeling from the news that the estranged husband of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Taylor Armstrong was found dead on Monday night.
Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter told AP that Armstrong, 47, was found hanging and was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m. Monday in a home on Mulholland Drive. No suicide note has been found and an autopsy is being conducted.
Taylor, 40, filed for divorce on July 15 from Armstrong, citing physical and verbal abuse. The show frequently showcased their on-air fights and she told People he would sometimes grab her, shove her, throw things at her and pull her air. He told the magazine the show had hurt their relationship.
RumorFix.com spoke to Russell Armstrong last month and he seemed to be struggling to deal with the split and the spotlight.
“This is a devastating time,” he said. “We had a wonderful marriage and I don’t want you to get the impression that Taylor and I are bitter enemies — we’re not. We have a beautiful five-year-old daughter who we both love.”
He added, “The pressure of being in the TV spotlight was pretty overwhelming. It took our manageable problems and made them worse. We are very supportive of each other and love each other. I will support her as best I can moving forward.”
Russell’s lawyer, Ronald Richards, tells TMZ, “I feel bad because his credit cards weren’t working … He had tremendous financial problems.”
Richards adds, “He was also extremely bummed out about the divorce with Taylor. As far as a will, even if he does have a will, they don’t have any assets, so I’m not sure what there would be left to leave. I am extremely saddened … I had no idea he was depressed.”
