Designer Betsey Johnson Spring 2012 Fashion Show Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

13 Sep

Betsey Johnson has never been one to follow trends and her spring 2012 collection was no exception. While many designers are leaning towards textured tops and mid-length skirts, Betsey chose sheers and loosely flowing bottoms, which were a pleasant divergence from her typical bubble and tulle skirts.

The sheer was, assumedly, to showcase her newly-blossoming lingerie line, to which she featured in her final walk , having the panty-clad models carrying A and T balloons (which stand for A Tisket, the lingerie line).

Betsey complimented her ultra-feminine style with ultra-high platform stiletto heels (giving a few of the models a run for their money). The collection was filled with Betsey’s go-to patterns like floral, cheetah print, and skulls, printed onto full-length skirts, wide leg pants and harem-style rompers. And, of course, Betsey’s fabulous line was not the sole entertainment of the night. Surprising audience members, Betsey danced down the runway, skipping up and down as the models took their final walk. At the end of the night, Betsey Johnson entertained.

Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen Launch New Range of Luxury Handbags ‘The Row’

30 Jul

Twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will launch their new range of luxury handbags. They are American movie and television actress.

The new collection of luxury handbags has been launched under their fashion label ‘The Row’. Stated to debut Barney’s departmental store, New York in August, bag consist of nine designs including a day tote, backpack, doctor bag and a shoulder bag made from python and alligator.

The bag collection is an amalgamation of new age style and old world glamour. The bags look very chic and contemporary despite a hint of old world styling. Twin sisters recently also dressed up US First lady Michelle Obama.

While we look forward to every new collection from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen‘s The Row, Fall 2011 promises to be particularly crave-worthy. Once again, the duo has gone above and beyond to track down materials that push the boundary of contemporary luxury: strips of mink are woven into cashmere knits, double-sided fox fur provides unprecedented coziness.

Sleek and sophisticated, they blend old-world glamour with contemporary chic—a rare balance that has come to define The Row, season after season.

Below, we listen in as the designers interview one another about inspiration, collaboration, and raiding Picasso‘s wardrobe.

Mary-Kate to Ashley

Mary-Kate Olsen: What is your favorite piece of clothing you’ve designed for The Row?

Ashley Olsen: I would have to say our first t-shirt. We have evolved so much since that first tee, but every collection is based on the same standards—luxurious fabrics, impeccable fit, and the highest level of quality.

MKO: What are the wardrobe staples you can’t live without?

AO: A great pair of vintage jeans, a tailored suit, a crisp white button down, Parisian stripes, and a great men’s watch.

MKO: If you could tap any designer to collaborate with The Row, who would it be?

AO: For Resort 2012, we collaborated with Ileana Makri on a small fine jewelry collection. It’s all about what feels right in the moment and what works with each collection. I cannot say who we will partner with next, but we feel it is important that we have a strong connection with the person, as is the case with Ileana, and that we have a passion for the product.

MKO: What’s the best fashion city: L.A.? New York? Paris? London? Tokyo?

AO: I don’t believe you can say any city is the best city for fashion. We started The Row in L.A., we are now based in New York, and we are about to open our first permanent showroom in Paris. We also have extremely important retail partners in London and Tokyo. They are all important fashion cities in their own right.

MKO: What’s the best fashion era of all time?

AO: There are important style contributions from almost every era. Drawing on the right references at the right time is the key.

Ashley to Mary-Kate

AO: What are your favorite materials and textiles to work with?

MKO: I love furs and skins because the textures are so compelling. We push ourselves and our team to consider new ideas and techniques for incorporating them.

AO: Who are some of your favorite designers (past and present)?

MKO: John Galliano, Yohji Yamamoto. They have and continue to redefine fashion.

AO: Do you have a style philosophy? For whom do you dress?

MKO: I dress for me and usually whatever suits my mood.

AO: If you could raid any person’s wardrobe (alive or dead), who would it be?

MKO: Picasso.

AO: What current trend would you like to see disappear?

MKO: My problem is not with the trends themselves, but the fact that trends are constantly repeating themselves.

AO: Where do you go and what do you do to unwind?

MKO: I like to travel when I can, which isn’t often. Otherwise, I like to be at home in New York with friends.

Guess by Marciano’s ad campaign for Spring/Summer 2011 invites you to “Come Fly With Me”, featuring models Heide Lindgren, Sabrina Nait. Eugen Bauder, Evandro Soldati and Brad Kroening photographed by Alix Malka.

Shot by Alix Malka with Heide Lindgren, Sabrina Nait, Eugen Bauder, Evandro Soldati and Brad Kroening, creative direction for the s/s 2011 Guess campaign mirrors the Golden Age of cinematography by Paul Marciano.

“The campaign, which was shot at a historic Aviation center and residence in Malibu, provide an intimate backdrop for the scene and let the viewer escape to a time heralded as the greatest era of cinema.

While Hollywood’s Golden Age gave us the likes of Eva Gardner and Sophia Loren, the GUESS by Marciano spring summer 2011 campaign is re-introducing old Hollywood glamour and style with a modern day twist.”

Shop At Soho Store Of Fashion Designer Diane Von Furstenberg

Photos/WWD  135 Wooster Street (between Prince and West Houston streets); 212-542-5754

For East Side babes or downtown girls not willing to trudge to DVF’s Meatpacking flagship, TGIF takes on a new meaning for retail therapists everywhere with today’s opening of Diane von Furstenberg’s Soho store.

The concept, conceived with new-ish creative director Yvan Mispelaere, will be a model for new DVF locations, to better reflect what Diane calls the new era. Throwing off the mantle of “Comeback Kid,” Von Fusternberg tells WWD “We mean business” (we wish we could have heard that delivery).

The aesthetic is all brick walls and barn wood floors, which compliments the “Journey of a Dress” exhibition she held at the Pace Gallery in Beijing, along with empowering sayings like “Love is Life,” “BE the woman you want to be,” and “Glamour Shine Confidence” written in neon graffiti.

Also on tap are a boatload of accessories in their own designated, drool-worthy area, which really makes us want to GSC. Yes, Glamour, Shine, Confidence.

Summary: In 1972, Diane Von Furstenberg first made waves with a simple yet radical directive: “Feel like a woman. Wear a dress.”

Five million wrap dresses later, she graced the November 1976 cover of Newsweek, touted as a new icon of female liberation and the most marketable designer since Coco Chanel.

After a dalliance with her own cosmetics line and a home-furnishings collection, she stepped away from the fashion limelight and moved to Paris, only to reenter in 1992 with Silk Assets, a pioneer in television shopping (its debut collection sold out in less than two hours).

In 1997, Von Furstenberg relaunched her clothing line, and the iconic wrap dress found a warm reception once again. This time, it was the daughters of the first-wave audience who welcomed the wrap into their closets.

Today, the DVF empire includes sportswear, beauty, and fragrance lines, and the flagship store is a cornerstone of the meatpacking district’s fashion quarter, functioning as a boutique, design studio, and pied-à-terre for the CFDA council president.

In addition to the wrap, DVF hallmarks include graphic floral prints, cinch-waist skirt suits, and forties glamour by way of seventies hippie chick.

Tess Giberson Opens Her First Store With Spring Collection 2011

31 May

If there’s one thing we’ll never complain about, it’s a chic, new place to shop on Crosby Street. Tess Giberson opens her New York flagship doors today to an airy space decked out in white brick walls and hardwood floors. The store launches with the spring 2011 collection the racks—one that received glowing reviews during NYFW.

Titled Shift, it’s a fresh mix of jersey dresses and tailored separates. “I’m so happy with our first store, because it’s an amazing way to create the right environment to present the collection, and to be able to have my own space to experiment more with special pieces,” the designer said of her new space. We’ll be more than happy to partake in that environment.
