Singer Amy Winehouse Body Is Removed From Her Home Following Her Death

23 Jul

A body, believed to be that of singer Amy Winehouse, is removed from her home following her death, in north London, Saturday, July 23, 2011.

Amy Winehouse, one of the most talented singers of her generation whose hit song “Rehab” summed up her struggles with addiction, died in London on Saturday at the age of 27.

The Grammy winner, famed for her black beehive hair, soulful voice and erratic behaviour on and off stage, was found dead at her new home in Camden a month after a shambolic performance in Serbia forced her to cancel her entire European tour.

Police were called to the address at around 1500 GMT and nearly five hours later the body was removed for a post mortem after it appeared she had lost her battle with drink and drugs.

“Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death,” said police superintendent Raj Kohli. “At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained and there have been no arrests in connection with the incident.”

He said reports that Winehouse had died of a suspected drugs overdose were speculation at this stage.

Family members had long warned that Winehouse’s lifestyle, which saw her in and out of rehab and blighted her career as a live and recording artist, could be her downfall.

Her last filmed performance was in Serbia in June, when Winehouse was jeered by the crowd as she struggled to perform her songs and stay upright. On some tunes, the audience did most of the singing.

The gig, posted on the YouTube video sharing site, prompted her management to cancel all scheduled performances and give the performer as long as it took to recover.

Winehouse’s record label Universal said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans at this difficult time.”

Around 50 shocked fans and onlookers as well as camera crews and photographers gathered behind police tape blocking off the leafy street where Winehouse had just moved into a new house.

A few left flowers, candles and a teddy bear. One note of condolence read: “Beautiful Amy, night night, sleep tight.”

“BACK TO BLACK”

The British singer was discovered by soul singer Tyler James at the age of 16 and in 2003 her debut album “Frank” was released, to general acclaim.

Her second album “Back to Black” was released in October 2006 and reached the No. 1 spot in Britain and earned her five Grammy awards, pop music’s equivalent of the Oscars.

The album produced a string of memorable tunes, including “You Know I’m No Good,” “Love Is a Losing Game” and “Rehab,” which contained the line: “They tried to make me go to rehab. I said ‘no, no, no.'”

Born on September 14, 1983, to a Jewish family with a history of jazz musicians, Winehouse’s personal life has filled Britain’s tabloid newspapers.

Winehouse was photographed wandering the streets of London barefoot and in only a bra and jeans in 2007 looking confused, the same year she married Blake Fielder-Civil who spent time in prison for beating up a pub landlord. They divorced in 2009.

In 2008, the singer’s father Mitch said she had developed the lung condition emphysema and warned it could kill her if she continued to smoke drugs.

Mitch, a taxi driver who launched his own musical career on the back of his daughter’s success, was in New York when the news broke. British media said he was on his way back to London.

Tributes poured in for an artist whose personal troubles stole the headlines in recent years and thwarted plans for an eagerly-anticipated third album.

Soccer star and celebrity David Beckham told Sky News: “It’s very sad, she was such a talented girl, and a girl with such a huge future. Our hearts go out to her family, her loved ones.”

Sarah Brown, wife of former prime minister Gordon Brown, tweeted: “sad sad news of Amy Winehouse – great talent, extraordinary voice, and tragic death, condolences to her family.”

Kelly Osbourne, a singer and television personality, also took to the micro blogging site, writing: “i cant even breath right now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”

“RICH, SOULFUL VOICE”

The Recording Academy in the United States praised the singer, who brought elements of jazz and Motown back into the musical mainstream.

“Her rich, soulful and unique voice reflected her honest songwriting and earned her a devoted fan following, critical acclaim, and the genuine respect and admiration of her musical peers,” said its president Neil Portnow.

Broadcaster and radio DJ Paul Gambaccini said Winehouse’s early death was sadly no surprise.

“We have been dreading this news for some time, hoping against hope that she would turn herself around, but she showed no evidence of being able to do so,” he told BBC TV.

“She just could not control herself. It’s tragic because both (her) albums were superb. We have 40 years of Frank Sinatra records, it turns out we only have two Amy Winehouse records.”

Daniel Rossellat, founder of the Paleo Festival in Nyon, Switzerland, where Winehouse had been due to perform before withdrawing from the tour, likened her to Janis Joplin, another gifted singer who died at the age of 27.

“It is the tragic end to a wonderful voice, similar to Janis Joplin both in destiny and in voice,” he told Swiss television.

Singer Billy Bragg wrote on his Twitter page that Winehouse joined not only Joplin but also Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain — who all died at the same age. Source

Celebrity Cover: Katy-Perry On The June 2011 Cover of Vanity Fair

4 May

Katy Perry opened up to Vanity Fair, dishing on how the pop princess went from preacher’s kid to a self-described “ballsy girl.”

As much as we’re amused by Katy Perry looking straight out of a John Hughes movie, we’re swooning over the pop star’s sleek, romantic look while gracing the cover of Vanity Fair’s June issue. Perry, who was photographed in Paris by Annie Leibovitz, and sat down with the mag to discuss her career, how protective she is of her marriage, and how she initially lied about not kissing any girls back when she sang about kissing girls. Confused? Jump below to hear Katy explain it in her own words.

First of all, when we think of Katy’s career in terms of edible goods, we’re inclined to think of it as cotton candy — fun, delicious fluff — but she sees it more like an artichoke: “People might think that the leaves are tasty and buttered up and delicious, and they don’t even know that there’s something magical hidden at the base of it. There’s a whole other side [of me] that people didn’t know existed.”

Touching on her need for privacy in her marriage to Russell Brand, Katy says, “The press is just not your friend when it comes to a marriage. That’s why we didn’t sell the pictures of our wedding, and we got offered millions of dollars for them, millions… it’s the wrong kind of attention. It detracts from the reason why you exist. We wanted that moment to ourselves.”

She does explain why she chose to show footage from her wedding in India while performing her Teenage Dream track “Not Like The Movies” at The Grammys. “I felt the moment was right and not forced,” she says. “Russell and I had time to savor our moment privately first and then share it with people when we were ready, and not for a paycheck. I loved the idea, because I thought it was beautiful and artistically accompanied the song I wrote for him. Plus, it was Valentine’s eve!”

When discussing her first hit single, “I Kissed A Girl”, Perry admits she lied about responding in the negative when she was repeatedly asked if she had ever kissed a girl. “I said no, I hadn’t experienced it, even though I had, because I didn’t like where the guys were taking the interviews.”

All in all, dealing with the judgment of the media and the public is worth it. “I don’t care what people say about my relationship; I don’t care what they say about my boobs. People are buying my songs; I have a sold-out tour. I’m getting incredible feedback from my music.”

Summary: Katy Perry graces the June Cover of Vanity Fairand reveals new information about her Evangelical upbringing, kooky husband Russell Brand and body image. Below, five lessons THR learned:

1. As a kid, her parents banned terms like “deviled eggs” from the house. “I didn’t have a childhood,” she says, adding that her Evangelical parents only allowed her to read the Bible and that words like “deviled eggs” and the name of the vacuum cleaner “Dirt Devil” were banned. She says her friends even had to sneak her albums because secular music was banned in her California home.

2. She turned away ‘millions of dollars’ for her wedding photos. She and husband Russell Brand refused to sell photos of their 2010 Indian wedding. “The press is just not your friend when it comes to marriage,” she explains. “That’s why we didn’t sell the pictures of our wedding, and we got offered millions of dollars for them, millions … It’s the wrong kind of attention. It detracts from the reason why you exist. We wanted that moment to ourselves.”

3. She compares her career to an ‘artichoke.’ “People might think that the leaves are tasty and buttered up and delicious, and they don’t even know that there’s something magical hidden at the base of it,” she says. “I think that eventually, [with me], you’ll see more layers. There’s a whole other side that people didn’t know existed.”

4. She admits she doesn’t ‘look like Gisele’ in the morning. She denies being upset that Brand once Tweeted a photo of her sans makeup. “I mean, when I go to rehearsals I look like that,” she says, referring to her glamourous on-stage look. “I’m every woman. It takes a village to make me who I am…. You don’t have to wake up looking like, you know, Gisele.”

5. ‘I don’t care what people say about my boobs.’ She came under fire last year for sporting too much cleavage during a Sesame Street taping, prompting her skit on the kid’s show to get cut.  “I don’t care what people say about my boobs,” she says. “People are buying my songs; I have a sold out tour. I’m getting incredible feedback from my music,” Perry said. “I already know my future evolution, where I’m going to go.”

R&B Singer-Songwriter Teena Marie 54 Found Dead At Her California Home

26 Dec

(CNN) — Teena Marie, a celebrated R&B singer-songwriter, was found dead Sunday at her California home, her manager said.

Born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, California, the 54-year-old artist famously paired with late funk legend Rick James and was nominated four times for a Grammy Award, according to her official website.

Marie was found dead by her daughter after apparently dying in her sleep, manager Mike Gardner said.

“Teena was a black voice trapped in a white body,” said Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One, a broadcasting company that targets African-American and urban listeners. “I would always tell her that she was one of the greatest vocalists of our time.”

Among her songs were “Lovergirl,” “Portuguese Love,” “Ooo La La La,” and “I’m a Sucker for Your Love.”

While no cause of death has been released, the singer’s publicist Lynn Jeter said that Marie suffered a grand mal seizure — a neurological event, marked by loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions, according to the Mayo Clinic — a month ago.

“Luckily, someone was there,” Jeter said of that seizure. “The ambulance took her to the hospital, and on the way she had another seizure.”

The publicist said that she had a “great” conversation on Saturday with Marie, who told her that she was excited about heading to Atlanta to perform this week — in what would have been her first performance since the seizure.

Marie sang under various record labels, including Motown, Epic and Cash Money Classics, since bursting on the scene as a 19-year-old, according to her website. Her most recent album, Sapphire, features collaborations with Smokey Robinson, Kurupt and Gerald Albright.

Eddie Levert, founder of the vocal group The O’Jays, praised Marie as both a singer and mother.

“There are a lot of black people who swore by her and believed in her, as far as her music was concerned,” he said. “She was a good mom, and to me, that is saying a lot.”

Rihanna On Cover Of Marie Claire: Moving Forward And Being Happy Again

10 Dec

Rihanna is featured in the December 2010 issue of Marie Claire UK.

She’s the toast of the music industry and the hottest talent around. Introducing our stunning December cover star, Rihanna. We caught up with the Rude Boy superstar to talk about surviving the bad times, learning to love her imperfections, and how she is happier and stronger than ever.

In the issue Rihanna talks about moving on & being happy again:

“I feel like I smile for real this time. The smiles come from inside, and it exudes in everything I do. People feel my energy is different. When I smile they can tell that it’s pure bliss and not just a cover up.”

She also talks about her wake up call:

“I needed that wake-up call in my life. I needed a turning point, and that’s what God was giving to me. All this terrible stuff they say to you, it breaks you down. [But] once you’re back on your feet – if you ever make it back on your feet – that’s the ultimate achievement.”

Rihanna also talks about her breakup with Chris Brown:

“Eventually, I remember waking up one day and I knew I was over it. One day, I remember I was in New York at the Trump Hotel and I woke up and I just knew I was over it.”

Read more from Rihanna’s interview and view photos at MarieClaire.co.uk.

Summary: Rihanna share’s her personal side of what she went through in her relationship with Chris Brown. She gets very personal about herself. As well as share’s where she is right now in the present part of her life.

I absolutely know in life we all grow out of something just to grow right back into being happy again. Life is always throwing curve balls at us. The question is are we willing to face things head on. Or do we just dodge the curve balls. Never learning from our mistakes. Mistakes are nothing more then lessons that allow us to gain maturity as we age. True wisdom comes from being in a bad place in life. Without mistakes how would we learn and grow as individuals you can’t.

Rihanna looks radiant and stunning in her photographs shot with Mikael Jansson for Marie Claire cover and interview spread. I guess being happy and stronger then ever will do that to any person.

Remember when life has dealt you a situation that seems totally impossible to get out of. That’s just life reminding you that you have hit a stage in your life that you grown up and ready to move to something bigger and better. Just we do not look at life’s preview that way.

So check out Rhianna on the cover of Marie Claire Co UK. So go check out your nearest news stands if you haven’t already.  I picked my copy up at the bookstore!

My Experience: I received a text message from my friend Sean asking me to goto a Pr party for Kandi Burruss and Eric Benet. It was 6pm already I actually was on my way to workout.

I kept staring at the text message. Asking myself should I take this opportunity that’s presenting itself to me at this very moment in time. Or should just pass up a good opportunity.

Sean has become a good friend of mine over this short period of time. We grew closer in friendship the last 7 months I been here in Dallas. He is a talented person himself. Always following his passions in his life. Which I very much respect about him.

I showed my husband the text Sean sent me. Then I asked him if I should go. He was very supportive and agreed that I should go check it out for myself. Also, wished me a good time.

I been a stay home mom for so long. However, I always dream t of Public Relation type jobs. So to be in a place where all that was going on that night was Pr. I have to say it was one of the many great experiences of my life.

Sean introduced me to a few of his friends in the business, as well as he wanted me to really live in the moment of great possibilities.

A few times when Sean walked away I had to ask myself how did I get here. How can such and opportunity come a knockin. Then I remembered when watching the secret. Ask and it is given.

Opportunities never come or present themselves in ways that you expect them to come.

When you talk about it you therefore are putting it into existence. Therefore later it becomes your reality.

Sean has asked me numerous times to get out and enjoy Dallas. However, after a hard break up with a best friend before moving here 8 months ago, and leaving a state where I thought I was going to call home just to start all over was just simply exhausting to me. I truly just wasn’t ready. Just to go out and have fun again.

After months of Sean just really sharing with me how important is it for me to live out my dreams in hair and make up, and people if I can not even make the steps to want to embrace my new environment and city that I currently now reside in. How are my passions in my life going to become my reality then.

Sean and his friend Tee Bone. Tee Bone is a reality star himself. Has been on I Love New York. I am surrounded by them often being that we all train at the same gym. So there is no excuses for me passing up good people who care and who want to see me win in life.

Now that I know there’s more to life then me being a stay home mom. You lose sense of self when you don’t surround yourself with the things that truly make us happy. I love people. I love inspiring and making a difference in a person’s life.

Please do not get me wrong. Nothing wrong with being a stay home mom but my son is 14 old enough to stay home alone. So I did my job now. I love being a mom, and a wife but I am ready to live my passions and the life I been dreaming of.

I know that Public Relations of any type. Or just being out there impacting people in life. Is what I am truly passionate and good at! It brings profound joy to my heart and soul!

This experience of me stepping out of my shell as well as my comfort zone has taught me. That anything is possible. You have to have confidence, faith, and the actions to make it a reality. You have to really do something completely different.

I met so many wonderful and talented people last night and just like Sean said it’s only the beginning. Now that I got my feet wet just a little bit I can’t wait to get in deeper to see what comes next.

I just couldn’t believe how other Pr people were willing to take my name and number and willing to connect me to other people who are in the business or at least give you a direction onwhere to go.

So remember never allow yourself to fall short. If someone keeps pushing you to share positive experiences take them on their offer and see what it can bring you.

You don’t know until you try! Don’t give up on hope, passions, and the strong will to live a powerful life.

Fulfillment is everything in life!

Eric Benet, Kandi Burruss, Lil Twist – Share their new music with the city of Dallas at All Star’s Lounge

Eric Benet and Kandi Burruss share new music by giving us all a taste of their new albums coming out this month.

What a night it was! Everyone gathered at the All Star’s Lounge here in Downtown Dallas.

Where Eric Benet, Kandi Burruss, Lil’ Twist from Lil Wayne’s record label all made a guest appearance.

We all gotta chance to listen to the wonderful new music these to singer and song writer’s offer us on there new upcoming albums available in stores this Holiday season.

We all got to listen to Eric Benet and Kandi Burruss sing live up close and personal. It was absolutely a wonderful night in downtown Dallas last night. While making their way across the country.

I absolutely enjoyed myself while in the company of Sean Owens, Krista Kelley and few other of their friends. So many Pr people under one roof.

While Eric Benet was being interviewed. All Star Lounge served food, drinks, and nice music was being played in the background. Which made for a wonderful and deliteful night.

I myself got to meet a few of my friend Sean Owens PR friends. I met quite a few models that night that were there as well to represent their Pr company that they work under.

My experience with Eric Benet was such a short quick but rather delightful moment I might add. The room was slightly cold I was kind of shaking to the coolness of the room but also from the fact that he had his arms wrapped around me. He mentioned “Wow you are shaking!” I said ” Yes I am so nervous!” after he said so was he. My nerves then went away.

He looked right into my eyes….. and I swear that moment was lost for a second. What a nice guy. Beautiful person. I have to say and incredible singer.

He definitely is a class act! So you don’t own any of his music you need to google and and check out a few tracks on Youtube if you  can. What a beautiful voice that man has.

As he was being interviewed a young man with the name Lil’ Twist entered the room with his mother and entourage and then signed autographs for his fans. As well as took photos with his many fans.

I had no clue who this young man was until someone explained that he is new talent from Dallas. I recently just moved here.  I am from the Chicago, Detroit area. So when it comes to the talent of Dallas I would not know who that might be these days. Now that I am resident I am doing my best to learn who’s hot and learn the music culture of this city.

The night ended with beautiful Kandi Burruss singing her tracks giving us a feel what’s on her album and what each song meant to her as she wrote the album.

So you got to see a fun and more personal side of Kandi Burruss. She was very fun and down to earth and always smiling.

This was a great experience to have met her and to be able to be photographed with such a talented woman.

All in all it was my first PR party experience. This was in a club setting but not a club going event. Very classy and cool mood that went on through the night with finger food, and drinks.

Quite a bit of photo sessions and interviews were constantly going on through the night.

Sean Owen’s let me a bit into his world. I have to say what a world it truly is. I can only imagine what comes next!

My life in Dallas after all turned out to be full of wonderful people, great experience’s and powerful connections!

When you think that after being a stay home mom for so many years that my life would unfold the way it has the 8 months I been here.

When you think dreams don’t come true they do! Always when you least expect it!

When you think that your life is reached it worst…. it’s then and only then your life is just going through changes of growth for self improvement.

All dreams are possible. You have to believe have faith and be dedicated to your passions and know that at any moment your life can open up for you!

Fantasia, Eric Benet, and Kandi Burruss will join forces for tour this Fall/Winter 2010-2011.
